Dr. Erin Ong was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland. She is a board-certified ophthalmologist who completed residency training at the University of Maryland School of Medicine where she served as a chief resident. She received further training in Cornea, External Disease, & Refractive Surgery as a fellow at the number one ranking Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Prior to her ophthalmology training, she completed an intern year at Mercy Medical Center and earned both her Doctor of Medicine and Masters in Genomic Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She received her Bachelor of Science and Art in Neurobiology & Physiology and cum laude in Psychology as a double major at the University of Maryland. She has served as a trip leader on short term medical mission trips to Nicaragua and volunteered at Healthcare for the Homeless, Sight Savers for free vision screenings for the Baltimore community, and Maryland Society of Eye Physicians (MSEPS) Advocacy Day.
Dr. Ong has a special interest in cataract surgery, corneal transplants, pterygiums, and complex anterior segment surgery. Outside of work, she loves to hike, kayak, snowboard, play board games, and cook with her family and church community. She is also proficient in Mandarin and Spanish.
